Artifacts of Legend: Ends June 10

The Artifacts of Legend projects is in its final week.

This two-book project has expanded to 84 pages. Between the two books, it now contains 20 major artifacts, plus two new types of magic items (Legendary and Spirit-bound items) that let you roll your own.

I talked with Hunter on SJGames Live for about an hour about this project, which showed example layout as well as making a new item real time (the Hunter's Sting, which is going to appear in the book).

Here are some work-in progress screen-shots from the book:

The dry cloak is a spirit-bound item from Artifacts of Saga.

Two legendary items, created when the gods of Nordlond reward great deeds.

The project is roughly 85% funded with just under a week to go. Initial reviews of the document have been enthusiastic.

There is also a discount code for 25% off all existing Gaming Ballistic material in the add-ons section of the Kickstarter page.

The project is about 85% funded...and could really use a boost so that we head into the closing weekend already funded.

The Artifacts of Legend Kickstarter is now LIVE!

The Artifacts of Legend Kickstarter is now live.

Containing 20 objects of great power for good or evil, plus a random legendary object table, new types of magic items for good or ill, and plot seeds featuring the items and the personalities that need them.

Live on Kickstarter from May 25 through June 10.

I'd appreciate your pledge on this one. Not only is this a fun book of powerful and portable items, it's one of three GURPS-related projects I'm hoping to complete before the end of 2023. Successful projects mean a head start on getting the next ones done.

Artifacts of Legend: Launches May 25 (Thursday!) on Kickstarter
11 months ago – Tue, May 23, 2023 at 05:56:09 AM

Gaming Ballistic is currently the only third-party licensed publisher making materials for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG. Douglas (the Chief Everything Officer at GB) is about to launch the 18th and 19th books as support material for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG Boxed Set.

Artifacts of Legend is a two-book project launching on Kickstarter on May 25. It runs through June 10. Afterwards, late pledges will be available on Backerkit until fulfillment begins.

The first book, which gave the campaign its title, is Artifacts of Legend. It is 40 pages long, and contains nine major artifacts, plus a Legendary Item generator (random tables) producing magic items based on the Named Possession model introduced as Runecarved Items in Delvers to Grow: Fast Delvers.

The second book, which looks to come in at 36 pages, is Artifacts of Saga. These are darker, more grey-area in many cases. There are 11 such items (each artifact has a two-page spread), plus strong tie-ins with some NPCs, who are given plot-seeds. It also includes two alternate power sources for items: spirit-binding and tapping ley-line loops.

With little effort, these mighty weapons can be easily transported out of the Norðlond setting ... and as my future projects take off with the Infinite Archipelago series of settings, you'll see more and more "not Norðlond" coming out of Gaming Ballistic.

Please follow the campaign to be notified on launch.

Nightmare Fuel is now LIVE! Want more monsters? We got more monsters.
over 1 year ago – Sun, Oct 16, 2022 at 09:01:22 AM

Gaming Ballistic is thrilled to present the next volumes in a hopefully ever-expanding set of ready-to-play creatures for your Dungeon Fantasy RPG games...or anything else that needs some horrific fun!

Nightmare Fuel provides three themed books of monsters: Serpents of Legend (40 pages), The Bugstiary (36 pages), and Garden of Evil (20 pages).

Each book is presented in a very similar fashion to the Nordlond Bestiary, with background, abilities, stats, and each creature having its own custom artwork.

The details of each book can be found below. Welcome to your nightmare. Hope you're not too afraid of spiders, bugs, and carnivorous plants!

Here's an example cover; though it's still WIP, it shows where the art is going.

The Nordlondr Ovinabokin (Bestiary and Enemies Book) is the model for layout, graphic design, and art style for the real books.

s with the Nordlond Bestiary - which you already have so I don't have to explain it, each creature gets:

  • A description of the monster, including where it's found and its behavior or motivation
  • Special Abilities and powers
  • Traits, Skills, and Spells, plus an attack block showing preferred and secondary attacks
  • A uniform stat-block including pre-calculated control point thresholds for use with Fantastic Dungeon Grappling
  • Custom art for each monster archetype, along with a silhouette of Ylsa the Averagely Tall Human (she's 5' 9" tall) for scale.

Please join in making the three Nightmare Fuel books a reality!

New Release: Shields Up! ... and Nightmare Fuel is Coming next week
over 1 year ago – Sun, Oct 09, 2022 at 03:54:49 PM

Gaming Ballistic is pleased to announce a new release for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG.

Shields Up!

Shields Up! expands on defensive shield use and also details the often-neglected roles of shields as offensive weapons and active tools of engagement.

Building off of the Dungeon Fantasy RPG and Fantastic Dungeon Grappling, Shields Up! enhances and expands your shield-using experience. Both books are required for play; both came in the Boxed Set reprint.

  • Leverage the "shield bind" to open lines of attack, or protect yourself
  • New explicit options for treating the shield as cover in combat. Hide from a rain of arrows, or crouch behind your shield to shelter from dragon's breath!
  • Use a shield actively to hold a foe at bay, or prevent them from coming into weapons range
  • Details on shield damage, overpenetration, and all the goodies you'd expect when the right answer to "shield wall!" is "Thog SMASH!"

Also includes rules for shields as gear, modifying them for particular use, how to treat shields relative to creatures of different size, and more.

This 24-page book in 8x10 format presents fight-tested rules that give new options for shield-using warriors, while preserving existing rules: You can introduce this to an ongoing campaign easily.

Preliminary Backorder Notice:

This product is available in both Print and PDF, but the print version is currently back-ordered. Stock is expected in 2-3 weeks. Shipping times will be "time it takes to get inventory" plus normal shipping.

International Backers may wish to wait until the Nightmare Fuel crowdfunding on Backerkit and pick it up as an add-on...it will be printed and shipped from the UK for that project, which is less expensive than USPS.

Nightmare Fuel: Launches Next Week!

On October 13, three new bestiary volumes launch for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG on Backerkit Crowdfunding! Gaming Ballistic is pleased to announce the Nightmare Fuel crowdfunding campaign!

Why Did it Have to Be Snakes?

Always a classic. From the powerful spawn of the World Serpent Jörmungandr to the mythical hydra. The flying coatl and the (totally not a) medusa. These legendary creatures come in all sorts of sizes, ready to crush, envenom, and petrify delvers. Or swallow them whole.

Now we know why it had to be snakes! How could it be anything else?

Really Big Bugs

What's more terrifyingly awesome than a swarm of insects? A plague of giant, man-eating insects. From giant ants to ant-men. Scorpions both swarmed and super-sized. And spiders, of course. From ancient near-gods (who are absolutely not spawns of Ungoliant) to baby acid spiders. Does it sting, bite, enweb, or just look creepy?

This book is a straight-up catalog of crawling horror – at least 32 different insects, arthropods, and near-human (-ish? -oid?) creatures, ready to play.

Feed Me, Seymour!

Sometimes, it's the scenery that's out to kill you. From awakened trees, and a shrubbery that brings you where it wants, to things that are definitely not ents. From literature and legend, a host of vegetative monstrosities populate this short volume.

Sixteen different flavors of plant monster. Sing it with me: Delvers sure look like plant food to me!

The Books

These three volumes are targeted as follows:

  • Serpents of Legend. 40 pages.
  • The Bugstiary. 36 pages.
  • Garden of Evil. 20 pages.

There will be a limited number of pledges that include hardcover versions of the original Nordlondr Bestiary. The campaign launches on October 13. Follow the campaign to see how it's progressing, hear about stretch goals as they're revealed, and spread the word!

Nordlond and More

In addition to the Bestiary, Gaming Ballistic also offers the Delvers to Grow character generation quick-start, five ready-to-run adventures, and rules supplements. Check them out on the Gaming Ballistic Shopify Store, or pick them up during the campaign!

Please Follow the Campaign

If more (and more, and more...) full-color monster books are of interest, please sign up to be notified at the landing page. The campaign is scheduled to launch in mid-October, and should last through early November.

Let me know when the nightmare begins!
