First Token Pack File - full-body tokens on round black base
about 2 years ago – Thu, Feb 10, 2022 at 12:41:23 PM

I've just put out the first file for tokens, and I'll let folks look at these for a bit, as the images used and other things are going to be pretty identical. So if there's a mistake, I'd rather correct it once, then spool out other file types.

A word about these: Everyone wants something different from their tokens, and I get that. I have at least one patron that only likes top-down versions, but I don't have that art, so I just can't without a separate project.

I will be providing zoomed-in versions as well. I also will be giving versions - zoomed and full-body - with the green, yellow, red "where's the front, side, rear" hex locators.

Eventually, you guys will probably be getting something just shy of 800 tokens, though almost certainly folks will only use their favorite ones. Some will probably be unhappy because they're not to their liking in format, and for that I apologize. I did try and provide some previews of tokens during the campaign so as to not surprise anyone.

Nick and Nose tested them as Foundry imports, and got this:

I think the one with the thin border (the Acolyte) is old-style. I tweaked the circle to be 12 points thick.

Each token is 500 pixels wide.

OK, Fine, Fine. One more update.

I pushed out Bestiary u20220207 today.

Includes

* Full index

* Updated Table of Contents

* A whole mess of spelling corrections, including a whole-document spell-check.

* Some updated art on lizard-folk and the elder storalf.[1]

* A reworked logaskuggi to make him tougher vs experienced parties

I may take a look at various other apex monsters and tweak a bit more, as someone is running a fight-test of the grimmdar soon. I also want to try something to make words like blóðþrysta be findable in acrobat if you type blodthrysta in plain-English. This may or may not work and will involve hidden-but-searchable layers.

Finally, yes, I know that InDesign is exporting ALL of the bookmarks for everything after Instant Druid! under the Acolyte as if it were a section header or something. I can't explain it: the nesting should follow the Table of Contents and clearly does not. I CAN fix it, but need to resort to a very manual drag-and-drop using Acrobat DC.  So I'll fix that on Feb 14.

[1] Those of you who also follow Jill Bearup on Patreon or YouTube will understand from old to new that my feedback was "Just Stab Me Now" to the artist, as there was a huge gap right down the core area from solar plexus to groin. I'll forgive the combat undies and lack of greaves on both storalf and lizard-folk as artistic license, but there's only so far I can go here. ;-)

Penultimate Distrubution: t220205a
about 2 years ago – Mon, Feb 07, 2022 at 12:52:32 PM

I'm releasing (and blasting emails for) what I hope is the second to last version of the file before the last one that should go out Feb 14.

I've made probably hundreds of little fixes, added quite a few names to the playtest/proofer list (thank you!), and tweaked out a few things. So while I still need to give the entire thing a detail-read with my own eyes, a lot of the more egregious (and not so egregious) mistakes have hopefully been quashed.

What's left?

  • Five or six pieces of art, which I expect to have ready to insert by Monday. Hopefully before.
  • Index and Hyperlinks
  • I'm still not happy with the logaskuggi, and I'm probably going to be reworking it based on some observations in a recent fight-test.

Once those things are done, one last detail-read and then it goes to the printer, and I start my production for cards, tokens, and VTT pack. Then it'll all be in the hands of manufacturing and shipping!

Nordlond Bestiary Fight-Test: Lan and the Six Alfar Warriors
about 2 years ago – Mon, Feb 07, 2022 at 12:52:28 PM

This is a guest post and fight-test by Kalzazz

"Only in stories did one man face six without injury. [...] Only in stories did one man face six and survive." --Robert Jordan, New Spring

One of my favorite scenes in fiction is in New Spring, when Lan faced six credible swordsmen and Lan did, in fact, survive.

This great battle took place near a stables and an inn, happily enough, the great GURPS Adventure You All Meet in an Inn (in Pyramid #3/98) has a map which features an inn and stables.

Earlier trials with the Alfar Warrior had shown that (in a swordfight) they were about on par with a 300pt Knight straight up, may the luckiest roller win! So that makes them solidly credible.

Note: This is an assumption of a swordfight. They could just casually stroll and fling arrows till the cows come home vs a Move 5 due to encumbrance 300pt knight. So, I thought it would be very interesting to see how they fared against a higher point value character as a group, in fact, what happens if we try to pull off Lan's famous fight?

I don't have a sheet for Lan, but Polly Daze, my elf archer from the long running DFWhiterock and now the ongoing DFWhiterock The Legend Continues happens to be a 548 point character best described as a straight up DFRPG swashbuckler with a scout lens, is a good example of an organically grown higher level swashbuckler. So why not: Congrats Polly, you are now Lan.

I had discussed with Doug earlier, and the plan was for the Alfar to try to use their numbers for an envelopment and also try to get off Daze spells, and in general to try to maximize tactics.

We start them off lined up in loose array facing Lan, near the stables. 4 hexes separating Lan and the closest. Lan is slightly faster.

Ready? Fight!

First Complete File!
about 2 years ago – Mon, Feb 07, 2022 at 12:52:26 PM

The groaning you hear in your InBox is the first complete, full-resolution version of the Nordlond Bestiary.

It's a big file: I moved up to best quality on the embedded images, so that really hits file size hard.

It includes all missing art (at least one rev of it), and an index. The hyperlinks should work too.

It's not the final version, though - I still  have some art upgrades coming in on a few images, and I have yet to tweak out the logaskuggi and a few of the apex monsters.

But I've made all the edits/errata that I've received. Not saying they're all purged, but if they were in my inbox before today, I've made those changes.

I'll hold off any more full distributions until Feb 14 at this point, which will be the go-to-market version of the book that I'll submit to the printer that night. I may throw down an update or two with altered apex monsters for feedback, though. Then I'll get busy on counters/tokens, cards, and the VTT module.
